Linsen & Spinach soup (Palak Daal) with rice

This is my staple diet .. and pretty cost effective too. Doesn’t matter which country I stay in .. this is pretty much constant in my diet 🙂 … coupled with Papad (crisp Indian waffer) and pickles 😀

The recipe:

  • Boil lentils or linsen in a covered vessel or pressure cooker till it becomes very soft
  • In a deep pot, heat some oil
  • Add cummin seeds
  • Add chopped garlic and onions
  • Saute for 5 min
  • Add the softened and boiled lentils
  • Add turmeric powder and salt to taste
  • Add a spoon of sugar
  • Boil for 5 min
  • Add Spinach puree
  • Boil for 5 more minutes
  • Serve on boiled Basmati rice
