I discovered an African store which is close to a place I end up going regularly. If any place has something related to food, it always intrigues me 😉
So I been poking my nose around to learn about new ingredients 🙂
One of the discoveries included a fish called “Black Tilapia”.

So I had to try it out 😀
  • 1 kg of Black Tilapia fish, cut & cleaned
  • 2 tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 3 pieces of Garlic
  • 1/2 cm of Ginger
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • 1 spoon of coriander seeds
  • 3 spoons of oil
  • 1 spoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 spoon of Kashmiri chilly powder
  • 2 spoons of Bengali Fish masala
  • 2 cloves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 spoon of cumin seeds

  • Heat 2 spoons of oil
  • Add cumin seeds and let them pop
  • Add cut ginger, garlic and onions
  • Add curry leaves
  • Saute until onions are soft
  • Add turmeric and chilly powder
  • Add salt and Bengali fish masala
  • Add cut tomatoes
  • Mix and saute until tomatoes are reduced by about 50% of their volume
  • Grind the mixture and keep aside
  • In another pan heat a spoon of oil
  • Fry the fish pieces for 5-10 min
  • Add the grinded mix
  • Cover the pan and continue heating for 5 min

Serve in a plate & garnish with some curry leaves.
